Chatty Taxi

I jumped into a taxi needing to run a work errand in a taxi. I had a super chatty driver. He reminded me of JR, by manorism and voice, to the point where I took his photo and sent it to my sister.

It kicked off a theme for the day, chatty taxi. I needed to move computers from one building to another to get temps set up for a project. Then to go back to my building to meet some new employees I had another chatty taxi driver.

Three cabs for the day, three chit chatty taxi drivers. Very sweet men, I wish them all the best.

Season Premiere Night

Two of my favorites are back today! A new start to a new season of tv. Woo hoo!

Adventures with Laura

Laura and I decided to venture out of the comfort of the UES to another part of the city.

We left around noon & saw the 6 train wasn't running downtown. We took the M79 crosstown, changed to the D train to 34th, then to the Q to 14th, R to Prince, walked down Spring in search of brunch. We saw a cute tapas place and decided our first stop would be brunch at Boqueria.

We took a windy walk through Soho, stopped at Top Shop and Aldo. Walked into Little Italy and popped into the Christmas in New York Store. The photo today is a bright pink Santa tree, decorated in shades of pink and purple. Couldn't have been tackier!

We decided on a movie, so we took the train to Union Square. Took a gander at Nordstrom Rack. Sat in Union Square park to absorb some sun while we waited for our movie to start.
Saw Don Jon at the Regal theaters. Had dinner at Republic. And grabbed a taxi home.

Annie & Oysters

Missing some sparkle, but glad we saw it. I didn't love Annie the first time I saw it. But I thought I would give it a second change when Jonathan and Shawn really wanted to see it before it closed.

The better portions of the evening, before and after the show at dollar oysters!

Coffee Cake Across State Lines

One of our recruiters brought us a pumpkin coffee cake. Apparently they are only available at the Dunkin Donuts in New Jersey. So she brought it in for us to try. Pretty phenomenal for a store bought day old baked good!

The Speed of Taxi

Walking home tonight, I crossed the street and noticed how quickly the taxis were passing. I thought this shot was pretty cool, with the Bloomingdales lights and the taxi in motion.

Curtain of Hair

I received a text from Kevin today, "Umm... are you wearing a magenta top and black skirt today? And visiting SB? I'd swear I just saw you"

Nope... Here in NY.

The follow up comments about my "curtain" of hair made today's photo of the day. Thanks, Kev.

Overheard in NY

During a political conversation with his wife and another couple, the man next to me at dinner said, "I wish Spitzer or Weiner would have won so there would be rampant sex around the city."

I love New York!

30 Rock & Work

A lazy Sunday after an action packed Saturday. I caught up with Top Chef Masters, Project Runway and On Stage and watched 8 episodes of 30 Rock. I haven't ever watched it so I started with the pilot about 5 hours ago. I had coffee with Laura, worked from my laptop, made burritos and watched tv. Eh, they all can't be productive!

Hamptons Road Trip

Shawnathan and I took a road trip to the Hamptons, out to Montauk and over to Sag Harbor.

Apple picking, pumpkin patching, seafood eating, island touring, art admiring.. It was a busy, but fun day!

Here are some highlights in a montage collage.

Fish Ransom

Someone tried to ransom my fish. I got him back. No money paid. Jerks.

Farewell for Andre

Andre and his wife, Eva, are moving to Burma. She was reassigned to a different list in the UN, so their time in NY has come to its end.

We had some drinks and appetizers at the cornerstone tavern after work, guess I should have taken this photo 5 hours earlier, when I arrived than when we left close to 11... Oops

Agent P

Kian started 1st grade a few weeks ago. He loves Phineas and Ferb, a cartoon series. One of the characters is Perry the Platypus, aka Agent P.

I sent a water bottle, lunch box, and backpack that my sister gave him to open. He said, "the best auntie I've ever seen!" And my sister sent this photo with his loot. Guess he liked it...

Ghost Story

Shawn and I trekked to the lower east side for dinner and a play. The Cheaters Club. It was a Savannah ghost story. It was a small playhouse. It was a fun, funny at times, but they should have quit while they were ahead. It was way too long!

A Fish Named Coeus

I bought a fish bowl on sale, thought it would bring some light & color to the office. Today Jac and I took an outing to Petco to buy a Betta.

He is an elephant eared betta, named Coeus. Coeus is the Titan of intelligence, according to Greek Mythology. And also the name of the primary system that my team at work supports. He'll be a nice addition to the team.

Happy Birthday, Amanda.

My sister's good friend & roommate had her birthday today. In our tradition, we celebrate many days in advance. Thought I'd share a photo collage of e-greetings she got leading up to her special day.

Drips

In Pil Pil, some of their decor includes drips of white candle wax. Andrew was playing with the wax and I kept scolding him not to touch! I thought it world make a cool Instagram.

Tiny Treat

Jonathan brought me some treats when he was at my apartment for dinner over Labor Day weekend. I had one that night, the others have just held their spots in the freezer.

I thought about going out to grab some Pinkberry, but remembered my tiny treats that I had saved for such an occasion. A 5.8oz mud pie!

Here one minute, gone the next. So happy with my single serving of delicious!

Line Jumper

I love a trivia game, so I quickly got addicted to the Million Second Quiz app. I've been trying to limit the amount I play, so as not to let it be a total time suck, but it's fun!

I qualified to be a line jumper this morning. Hooray for me.

Unexpected Package

I got mail! My sister sent me some tall socks with anchors, a collapsible banana hook and a card. A lovely surprise.

On a more serious note, it's 9/11. I didn't see the lights, except in photos. I didn't take any photos, but I wanted to at least make mention of today.

My Cocktail Queen

Today I took some time away from the office to see my cocktail queen present her original recipe in the Soyombo Mongolian Vodka competition. She didn't take home a top prize, but did receive some personal kudos from the judges.

Here she is, being a goofball, with her Mongolian Sunset.

YOLO, sarcasm.

After work I went to Stagshead with Meghan and Scott Brown, I sent texts to both Toms to join us. We were having a nice time. Both Toms joined after their meetings, Atomic with his consultant. It devolved into madness.

Another coworker, when checking in at a restaurant nearby questioned my being at a pub on a Monday, to which the response was YOLO... You only live once, why not visit a pub on a Monday.

For those who know I don't drink, who cares that I'm at a pub on a Monday. For those who know my level of sarcasm, I couldn't have agreed more with the server's constant but sarcastic use of YOLO.

Street Fair Dim Sum & Prizes

I mentioned to Shawn that there would be a Street Fair in front of my apartment. He suggested street fair dim sum.

We started our adventure with fried pickles. Then we got some coconut bubble tea, which was so delicious we got a taro one at the next iteration of the booth. Not as good. We got a pad Thai with jumbo shrimp, which wasn't great.

We played a few games, raffles and won 3 sets of free theater tickets to different shows. Shawn spun wheels for Soul Doctor and Awesome 80s Prom. And I played Plinko and won tickets for a new show starring David Hyde Pierce. We also got a bunch of chapsticks and other free junk from all of the booths.

We got a lobster roll & decided street fair dim sum had come to it's close.

We went for a few tapas at a local Spanish place. Had pedicures and decided it was nap time.

I fell asleep & woke up thinking it was too dark to be 7:52... Realizing it had only been a few hours not more than 12 :)

Junk food and sunshine after soup kitchen day makes for a tiring weekend! Haha

Selfless Service

It's nice to wake up at 7am on a Saturday, I mean, not usually... But when it's soup kitchen day, I'm happy to do it!

Organizing, cleaning, chopping, preparing, explaining, cooking, serving... It's all worth the smiles of the grateful people who come to eat a free meal.

Today we had so much food that we ran out of containers to serve it all in and we had so much overage that we gave gallon sized ziploc bags of food to people to take home.

Though I'm happy to attend Pete's wedding next month, I'm sad to miss the kitchen.

First Date on Broadway

I was so sad to see Chuck and Smash get canceled, but was excited to see Zachary Levi and Krysta Rodriguez co-starring in a Broadway musical comedy.

The show was entertaining, I was laughing for nearly 90 minutes straight. It was clever and well done, enough cheesy moments to keep it light and a few moments to ground it in reality.

Amy and I decided to stand in the stage door line to see if we could get any photos, they moved around so much it was hard to get a clear photo, but I did my best.

Ready for Some Football

The NFL is back in business. I walked home from work and decided on buffalo chicken quesadillas to accompany my couch potato-like return to football season. Relaxing & smiling.

Oysters and Alice

We made a trek into Brooklyn for oysters at Maison Premiere & Then She Fell, an immersion show with an Alice in Wonderland theme.

Delicious dinner and excellent show. I guess Brooklyn isn't so bad after all. ;)

Last Minute Lasagna

If you also read my food blog, this will be a bore.

I was channeling Garfield. All I wanted was lasagna, which was just silly because I got home from work so late. I made a simple recipe with no boil noodles, but it was so delicious.

Ground beef, browned with onions and garlic, fat free ricotta with Italian seasoning, doctored up jarred sauce and 4 cheese Italian blend. Yummy.

CBS is back!

TimeWarner settled up with CBS, just in time for the new fall line up. I saw some breaking news alerts and when I turned on the tv to check it out, David Letterman was kvetching about TimeWarner!

Truth Serum

It's interesting, not being a drinker and hearing stories of lowered inhibitions. Letting the truth fly because of drinks. I must have said, "in vino veritas", multiple times to 4-5 different people, today.

I googled to make sure I wasn't mistranslating it, and found this cute reminder of the day...
